If the charger output voltage is greater than the battery voltage, charging an 8 volt battery from a 6 volt charger should work. That should charge a "dead" battery to full voltage, but it may not charge an 8 volt battery to full voltage depending on how effectively the charger maintains its "stated" output voltage .
